We spent a week in The Lakes earlier this year, visited Ulverston, I recall this house which unfortunately fronts a busy road.
Was not then for sale.
But it is now.

I love it when the architect does that thing with the fireplace, a window directly above it.

Will it survive the next owner?

Very grand! I've not seen the "window directly above the fireplace" before, must make for a rather convoluted flue.

Looks like someone has butchered a big rectangle in that hallway floor - the rest of it looks in great condition, then there's this big grey slab :evil:

Not entirely my taste, but an interesting house nevertheless. A serpentine staircase like that always leaves me amazed - how on earth does the designer work out the geometry of the strings and the tread goings. I've had enough trouble in the past building a straight run staircase!

Fireplaces in the corner of the room, I've not seen that before. And that circular roof light (if that's the correct term?)

We have a square bay window in similar proportions to the one in picture 3, I fancied having panelling to the sides of the bay, as it's currently drab plasterboard, so these pictures will give me some ideas.

Lovely property, despite the somewhat overblown Louis Quatorze touches in the décor!

Some friends of ours also have a table with a post growing through the middle of it. It's a good conversation piece!

In the listing they say "Bespoke kitchen table built around central beams,......" I guess it doesn't really matter because you don't move a kitchen table anyway :lol:

More a case of 'behind this unassuming wheelie bin', but this exterior gives more of a clue to what lies within, some lovely original features.
Notably a super fireplace, an unusual ceiling treatment, and another fireplace with squint windows.

It even has what looks like its original windows.
For the moment. Hopefully no one will feel the need to 'update and refresh' as the EA puts it.

Some lovely Arts & Crafts details in that property, plus a very odd utility room with T&G and a carpet! The pleasant garden has the worst attempt at a decorative pond that I've ever seen!

The Ulverston HOuse seems rather sad and lonely. There are some lovely features, and a few awkward looking spaces so I hope that the new owners will see how to make the best of them without doing a drastic gut and strip.

The Evesham house is more alive, and could be a comfortable family home with care.

I like Ulverston.
I like the house very much.
Shame about the road on which it fronts. But that's why it's £395k of course.

Having looked again at the estate agent's pictures of the Ulverston house, there are a couple which I find slightly bizarre. One shows what appears to be a window immediately above a fireplace - OK it's actually a mirror reflecting a window on a side wall, but it might prompt some puzzlement from prospective buyers!

The other shows some French windows that appear to open directly against an outside staircase.

Some estate agents seem to be oblivious to the importance of showing off a property in the best possible light, in the all-important pictures on their website.

Actually, according to the EA blurb, the window is indeed directly above the fireplace......"a further window positioned unusually directly above the fireplace with concealed mirror screen which slides across to shelter the window in the evening."

I think the house is gorgeous, btw
