I see there are some other Bedfordonians here.. we're in the throws of getting builders to quote for timber frame repairs and probably the entire exterior to be lime rendered after the decades of cement/lime/whatever have been removed.. mostly cement!
The first guy seemed to know his stuff, reckoned the front soleplate needs replacing, entire re-rendering, a soakaway dug in (just have waterbutts, and a pipe going just on the ground by the house!)
can anyone recommend suitable builders for such work? our place is 1750ish timber framed cottage, wattle and daub infills, and probably some brick.
