The sun is shining and I've just sat outside and eaten my lunch.

Egg sandwiches from the chickens, raspberry Jam sandwiches from last years harvest, followed off with Stewed Rhubarb which I picked earlier today.

yum yum, life can't get much better.

Ditto with the sun and the lunch outside, but our rhubarb is still at the bud stage!

Blimey where are you?

This is my fith cutting and there is loads more that'll be ready in the next few days if the sun stays shining.

My outside planted acorns are starting to sprout as well. 47 out of 60 internal ones are growing well, they'll be going out under a cloche this weekend as they've been potted into larger pots now instead of seedling trays.

I think that stealing sandwiches from the chickens is very bad of you. Go and apologise to them at once.

Our rhubarb is shooting and we should get the forcers on it.

I've potted up some broad bean seeds and sent the other half to prepare the spud beds.

I'm a great Head Gardener... give the orders, he does the work.

Well I have nicer forcers... no doubt the rhubarb will grow longer soon... :-(

It's just it's cold oop north...

The more you pull it the bigger it grows ....
Rhubarb, that is.

Plant runner beans in autumn - might not be any earlier or the tsatiest of beans but it's lovely to see the shoots in winter. (Aquedulce are the hardiest)

That's a broad bean! Runners won't survive winter, and even broad beans don't like the winter here.

I was told to plant broad beans in the autumn, but as my new veggie plot wasn't avaialbe until Xmas day and it's only just been fenced off, I've got a busy Easterw eekend, i hope the weather stays nice....

I did mean broad beans - I used to grow them on the allotment.

Runner beans are grown in the chimney pots in the back yard.
Broad beans in the backyard attract too many black fly hoards.

It's so cold here we plant very little early - it simply sits and sulks or dies off altogether.

We had frozen water in buckets overnight.

I grew Aquadulce beans in the coldest of winters on a bleak and exposed allotment near the Town Moor..... I put cloches over them and they survived.
Leeks and parsnips had to stay in the ground it was so hard - but the beans made it through.

The cloches tend to blow away!

Leeks are all dug up now and soup made.
