We are feeling a bit more upbeat now as our builder has managed to clean up and put back several of the old oak timbers which came out of the roof rather than us being stuck with unsightly modern stuff.
Also pleased because we had a structural engineer produce a report which said that we would have to beef up the ridge timber with steel  because of the loads in roof at the ridge (big roof with extra valley section at rear - so lots of weight and pressures - boy stuff!)
Hang on we thought we have got a beautiful round 3 metre long piece of Oak which, now defrassed, is 6 inches in diameter - that would fit beautifully into the space and would certainly "beef up" the ridge.
Structural engineer did his sums and agrees that it will be fine. - Just got to get it up there now  - anyone got a helicopter they're not using?
The builders are starting to put the house back together now - am beginning to get a little excited - we could actually end up living there this year !!
