bathroom tiles - cost per m2

hello,

i am considering tiling two of the 4 walls in my bathroom which have a total area of 12.5m2.

can anyone give me a rough price that a good tiler would charge to tile these two walls with the metro style tiles (20cm x 10cm or 50 per suare metre). The walls are newly plastered.

and i live in the north west area of the uk.

Nope - I've never employed a tiler, but it's not so hard to DIY if you have patience and a tile cutting machine.

I employ them sometimes and the going rate in My area is about £20 pm2, It will be diffrent depending on what sort of tile and grout etc but small mosaics will be more as will be thick porcelin tiles which need better wet saws to cut.

A good tiler will have a photo album to show his work and remember get refrences

The tiles you want are quite popular at the moment but brick course style may cost a bit more, also make sure the tiles have glassed edges as some tiles from certain chains look nice on the front but the edges can be quite rough.

A good tile job is the best way to make a bathroom look good

......also a good tiler will fit 12sq m. of tiles on a flat obstacle free surface in 2 hours. It could take 2 days or more in a bathroom with lots of obstacles, lots of cuts, intricate patterns and type of tiles used.

The correct price is usually tailored to the individual application.

re. brick tiles -

the ones with bevelled edges can look a bit rough when cut as there's a large exposed cut surface. As they are laid in a brick arrangement at all edge of the wall you will have a mixture of cut and uncut tile edges. This is okay if you are at in internal corner, but on at external corner these cut tile edges will be visible (for instance if you were to tile the inside of a chimney breast, or the outside walls of a chimneybreast. Is there anything you could recomment to make this edge look nicer? Maybe there's a brick tile manufacturer that also makes half bricks to go with their whole bricks?

Thanks for pointing that out - there is a window in one wall and i was hoping to tile the window reveals - but i will have to think it through again and find out if there is a simple way of sorting it.

Okay, I found a solution! I was down in Margate to see the Margate Exodus fun and dodging Will Self stooping to exit a cafe toilet cubicle (he's a tall man) when I noticed the toilet tiler, faced with the same cunumdrum, had taken those cut half tiles and turned them around. This way the broken edge is hidden with grout and the exposed edges are all neat and tidy. You can see it if you look closely, but it's really a very good solution (as long as you cut them fairly straight). Not as good as brick shaped tile manufacturers making matching square tiles for this purpose though... mutter mutter. Unexpected advantage of being distracted by the tiles - I didn't have to pretend I didn't recognise Mr Self. Unexpected disadvantages - I looked like an idiot and someone nipped into said bog in front of me.

Nice one! I'm flattered u took an embarrasing trip all the way down to Margate just for me!!!

Your logical sugestion will look fine because due to having sash windows, the window reveal is only 90mm deep and the tiles are 200mm long, so u won't even see the cut edge.

...As i write this i have just realised that u will see a cut edge - the half tile that runs parallel with the window (not the one at 90 degrees). DOH!

...unless i put the cut edge of the so called 'parallel' tile tight upto the other tile. Dunno, it might look ok. Guess i'll just have to have a mess about and see what looks best.
