bathroom glass

Hi All,

I'm after some inspiration - if anyone can help

Our new bathrooms have got doors with standard sized glass panels in them. Trouble is that it's clear glass and we need it to be privacy glass. Has anyone got any nice pics of privacy glass panels -

NB - I have seen Biffs beautiful doors and stained glass panels - was after something etched or maybe just bumpy - rather than stained glass because we need it as light as possible - (but not like the bottom of a jam jar as it gives me the creeps - don't ask )

We applied 'frosted' window film at our last house as the front bay was only a couple of feet from the pavement. Cost about £30 for about 3m x 1.5 section bought from a glazier- two other people were buying the same stuff at the same time.. Clean the glass and 'float' the film onto a slightly wet surface. It worked really, really well - stayed stuck and was easy to clean. It would be my recommendation if you want to keep it really simple.

If the glass is not original, I would be inclined to replace it with etched glass. This comes in degrees of opacity, so you can choose how much light to allow through. In my view, this is probably a better solution than stick on or spray on coatings.

If you wanted a fancy pattern, these can be ordered from various sites online, but obviously you will have 'see through' bits. One of our bathrooms has 6 small glazed panels (the previous owners had covered the entire door in hardboard). We used plain etched glass which looks quite nice and allows privacy as well

re Pilkingtons.. my parents had a Colt house with all internal doors on the ground floor glazed with two large panels of Pilkington glass, the privacy stuff in leaf pattern. One day, heard a shattering sound and untouched by human hand a panel in one of the doors had shattered !

Westmorland Glass on Shap Road, Kendal do a range of frosted and obscured glass, and are stockists for Barron Glass who make reproduction etched / frosted panels. We got some there for our front door a few years ago.

I know you said 'no' to stained glass, but you could use 'wobbly' glass in leaded panels - in which case Northern Lights in Kendal is the place to go. There's a link to them on my website.

Thanks Andrew - I've literally just got a price from Westmorland glass for frosted Barron Glass panels - they might be just the right sort of thing but they don't really float my boat

I know Sarah Abba - is she the Northern Lights Lady? and theres Jo at Farfield Mill - but we're talking Art glass now

failing that I saw an ad in the local rag - Dallam school are doing adult education course in making your own stained glass

I fancied a mermaid on one panel and Neptune on the other - something tasteful - to go with my gold plated taps and Onyx coffee table!! - (JOKE!)

:shock: :shock: We've used that glass in our shed windows - and in bathroom which overlooks neighbours walled garden !!

I wont sing in the bathroom then!!

I have had all my glass and mirror bits from Rankins, they can do practically any glass finish and treatment.
