bath waste

i am looking to repair a bath waste that has been butchered at some time, does anyone know where l can get a replacement seal for this type of bath?

Did you get anywhere? The hole in the bath looks square and impossible to seal even by period craftsmen without the bottom of the seal leaving a big puddle inside the bath. It must surely become a threaded 2 inch pipe on the other side of the bath. The thread size and joint detail of that pipe attachment will be the important thing. Most things are available or can be cobbled together if you know that. I'm guessing a cast iron pipe?

If things can be cleaned up and refitted then DIY sheds supply plastic pipe joints with rubber seals. Just throw the plastic bits away. A round pipe can only have had a round seal.

the square hole does not need sealed it is the drain hole and will be covered with a grate when l find one that fits. The pluming is all in place and does not leak.
The "pipe" is the waste plunger that comes down inside the bath housing and seals the waste pipe, a leaver then lifts it to drain.

I have fixed it temporally by cleaning up the plunger pipe with a wire brush and fixing the seal on with a clear polymer based sealant and it seams to work. However l think it will need a new seal when l figure out how to source it.

I understand the photo better now. The part on the right is a rubber seal. My father had a 1907 house with that type of bath waste. It was quite fun and seemed to have an over-center action so was light to use Is yours Edwardian?

I'll keep my eyes peeled. I'm sure parts must be available but internet searches seem dominated by people trying to sell replica stuff.

Yep thats my experience and living in mid Argyll its not easy to pop into salvage yards

You could get a custom rubber seal made? There are plenty of businesses that do them.

If you happened to be a procurement specialist for a large firm who wanted a sample, with the potential for large follow on orders if it meets your own rigorous internal quality standards, you could even get that sample for free... :twisted:
