Bath Christmas Market

For anyone who can make it, don't miss the Bath Christmas Market. I went a couple of years ago and thought it terrific. It's held in the heart of Bath, surrounded by wonderful historic buildings, including the Abbey and Pump Rooms.

There's a prog of entertainment daily too. I have booked a couple of days away this year (to see that and the Euan Uglow exhibish at the Holborne Museum) and by Christmas I may be all Bah! Humbug! as usual but at least I wll have had an excuse to see Bath again.

And while in Bath, I recommend the Building of Bath Museum for any period property owner - fascinating stuff, particlularly the glass and sash window display.

I've just checked the Christmas link you provided and there's no date as to when it actually takes place...so, I've emailed the Tourist Office to ask them. I'll post the reply when I get it

The 2006 Bath Christmas Market will be running from Thursday 30th November - Sunday 10th December.

The thing we like best about Bath Christmas Market is the smell. Spices, perfumed candles, bath oils and herbs on every corner. And nice Christmassy snacks too!

It's great, especially if you get one of those, clear, cold winter days.

A large (or two, or three) glass of mulled wine helps to warm the extremities.

Makes you proud to be a Bath Bun....

Lucky you Simon, I love Bath. I wish I had more time to vist there more often. I used to pass though on the way to Glastonbury every summer for the festival and get out for a walk for a couple of hours.

I took Mrs M there for a few days last summer too, great place.

I've lived in Bath all my life, until 3 years ago, when we moved "south" (about 8 miles) to a very period property.....

Now we wish we'd stayed where we were! Whilst I'm very lucky to live where I am, it doesn't have the same "emotion" as living in Bath!

We are looking to sell and move back in during next year......currently battling with wonky walls and lining paper.....

It's one of my fav places in the world too - visit as often as I can.

I have fond memories of a dirty weekend (actually not so dirty - we did shower...) there many deacdes ago with my now other half - complete with brass fake wedding ring! In those days booking in to a B and B without this sort of pretence would have raised shocked eyebrows. There was so little traffic we drove in to the centre and parked the TR in one of the squares for no charge. It wasn't like it is now.

My finger did turn green yes. And the B and B cost twenty five shillings for two. That was a vast sum out of our student grant.

I'm hoping to go and see the Newark Works too, under threat of demolition for a nasty Dyson Academy.

Great international campaign going on now to save the building, the local press has been full of many well-informed and superbly argued letters.

It's easy to forget that Geo Bath isn't everything - and also easy to forget how much of that we lost in the not too far distant past in the name of 'progress'.

Do go see the Uglow exhibition at the Holborne though. He's now being recognised as the fine painter he was.
