We are about to renovate our 16th century barn and would welcome some advice on insulation and I'll attempt to add some photos to illustrate.
We believe the barn was originally of S. England or N. France origin and it was assembled here to form a fishing lake club house in 1930, several owners later it became residential and now has a house attached to it. It's an oak frame construction, suspended timber floor and a single skin brickwork infill, obviously it is freezing cold in the winter unless the heating is left on 24/7!

To enable the barn be used in the winter we need to insulate the roof, walls & floor. We want the inside to remain as exposed brickwork & oak and plan on insulating (with celotex? vapour barrier?) and timber clad the exterior.
I have removed all the rat and mice laden fibreglass loft insulation from underneath the suspended flooring and wish to provide better insulation below the flooring (celotex? air gap?).

The wonky roof has a few rafters that need to be replaced and also needs to be re-tiled! I want to replace the existing brown fibreboard that lays on top of the rafters with a something else that can be painted in a light cream colour (plywood?) then insulate with (celotex/tri-iso type blanket?).

I'd welcome any advice and tips from you experts regarding the best insulation methods, the building also needs to be able to breathe after all this insulation has been applied!
