Could someone please advise what the best wood stain is to use on our black barge boards.
I agree. You really need to know what has been used to black them before you can confidently choose a product to refinish them. By "stainer" I presume he means something like Sikkens or Sadolin. That's a decent choice for new softwood, but it won't necessarily be as successful over the top of a different finish.
