If you visit newark you must visit the bakers oven cafe in the market square where for the price of a coffee you can have access to the first and second floors of the old govenors house where prince rupert stayed during the civil war seige of newark.you are surounded by the timber frame and can see early blacksmith type repairs and early painting on the plaster and wood.Ive recently moved to near newark and am still in awe of th place.There is also the charles the first coffee house in kirk gate with a great inglenook(access through the flower shop)phil p-j.

In return, if ever you're in Bath, don't miss a trip to Sally Lunn's tearoom. It's said to be the oldest building in Bath, and as well as the absolutely delicious toasted buns (their speciality - so big you can forget about supper!) you can see a fascinating old building with a museum in the basement.

I am so looking forward to visiting Newark and the places you recommend- only 14 miles away but tricky for me to go anywhere until I pass my driving test. (june 2 now, so maybe newark next week. Coffee?)

The Nottingham Estate Agents is a cracker, see the link. If you go into the building, then some of the original painted decoration is preserved behind the door.

Yes it is a remarkable building,the oldest building in newark is the woolpack pub down stodman street(now closed) which is two thirds of a medieval aisled hall,but does not look all that special now.I agree the cheese and onion pasties are nice,and the cornish and the cakes and belgan buns,since moving to newark I seem to be putting on weight!phil.

Right, well, if you see a very happy looking solitary woman stuffing cheese and onion pasties in her 4 x 4 in Newark it's probably me, as I've just PASSED that wretched test! YAY! I think I drove worse than last time - I hit the kerb- but today is very hot and and I'm a lot less buttoned up. He turned a blind eye to all my serious faults.

Apologies to the environmental thread, but if anyone is thinking of moving to the country without a driving license, don't do it!

Don't make me miss Newark too we've been away 4 1/2 years now.

Look out for 42-44 Castlegate the timber framed houses fab place to live but when they opened the night club a few doors down it was a bit noisy

Is yours a desktop PC or a laptop? If the former, you can get a new keyboard very cheaply. It's not worth struggling with a faulty one.
