Automatic email system failure

I've recently noticed a sporadic failure in the system that sends an automatic email when someone replies to a thread to which I have posted.

I have checked threads that contain one or more posts from me, to find that others have posted without my receiving the email. I've also received one PM without an email notification.

I've checked my profile, and the "Always notify me of replies" option is definitely enabled.

Anyone else had this problem?

No to pm's, but I don't have the tell me when someone has replied box checked.

I'll try it now.

I've noticed a delay in the notifications--I sometimes get them a day or two after the posts have been made. Don't know why. It must be maddening for you, Penners, dear, with your need for instant gratification. Hope it gets sorted out.

At my age, if it were instant, it would probably be over before I'd noticed it.

And then I'd forget that it had happened.

Well, it appears that there was some sort of blockage that has just cleared itself. I got 23 emails from PPUK, all timed at 23:24 on Saturday - many relating to posts that I had read 6 hours before!

Someone has obviously been rodding out the pipes.

Another Forum which I am on was having long delay problems with messages over the weekend - it's a Yahoo Group but the overload problem could be linked - not helped by dozens of people sending test messages to see how long they take!

I have a much odder problem.

For no reason that I can imagine, e-mails from companies have started adding Penners to my address!
You know how an incoming message usually looks like this: "To: Joe Bloggs <jandmbloggs@newmail.co.uk>" ?
Well mine look like this: "David Penrose <jandmbloggs@newemail.co.uk>"

I don't mind at all, but it's a bit disconcerting, to say the least.

Is it possible they are being caught by your junk mail filter or blocked by security softwear?
