Re: use of Asbestos. My daughter & family are renovating a 1900 terraced house - there is Artex plasterwork on a chimney breast (multi-fuel burner installed). As they need the chimney breast replastering, the plasterer has said there may be Asbestos under the Artex work (if it was done 15+ years ago) Doubt if it was but how can they safely check, please?

What he means is that some older types of artex contained traces of the stuff, you can get people too check but remember it is pretty safe to remove if you get it wet as this stops it from becoming dusty and being inhaled (also the best way to remove artex).

your local council should have a recycle place to take it to in 2x black bag

Just take it off and get rid of it. If it may contain asbestos it should be double bagged.
