Asbestos in heater???

I'm dismantling an old storage heater. Having taken the metal cover off I've found some white fluffy felt type material. :shock:

Knowing nothing about whether ancient heaters ever used asbestos I thought I'd leave well alone and get some advice. Any thoughts?

I had exactly the same problem. There is a list on the web with the types of storage heaters that have asbestos in. http://www.aic.org.uk/Storageheaters.htm. I couldn't find mine listed and resorted to taking a photo and sending it to the manufacturers, who were very helpful and allayed my fears. Unless it is very old it is likely to be fibreglass or fireclay type stuff, however don't take chances.
