Is there any need for the whole PDoyle thing to be reposted in the 'archived topics' forum?

It was tedious as hell the first time around and doesn't do much for the knowledge base of the site. Additionally, the old forum's cascading messages make little sense when run in series on this board format.

I'm all for locking and archiving decent posts, I would call for some quality control though.

Matt - I agree that there have been some infinitely tedious threads in the past, but so long as they're not actually infringing the forum's rules, I'm not really in favour of their being deleted from the archive. This would start looking like highly subjective censorship, don't you think?

I'd pity the poor guy who had to do all the quality controlling. That would be a thankless and tedious task

Breaches forum rules, is useless and actually harms the site by disuading people to post here. And this is the 2nd thread- I gave up pretty quickly thereafter.

Yes - no argument from me there. That is a gross infringement of forum rules (not to say decent manners) and should go.

I have removed the thread containing inappropriate language from the Archive discussion forum.

In the event that people observe other inappropriate uses of language within the discussion forum I am happy for them to alert me to the fact and we will apply our discretion as to whether the posting needs to be moderated.
