Architect recommendations

Hi
Can anyone recommend an architect to work with us on our Victorian house in Stafford? We are looking to have a 2 story extension (garage and upstairs bedroom and bathroom) and an orangery kitchen extension. We would really like to work with someone who has experience in creating a sympathetic design with this period of home.

I'm not sure where he lives/operates but MikeG, one of the members of and frequent contributor this forum, is an architect and may, if he does not operate in this part of the world, know someone who does. If you find one his more recent posts you can send him a private message.

There is an architect in Birmingham called Joe Holyoak who is a memeber of he Victorian society and champion of conservation. He may be able to recommend someone or be able to take on the work that you want. I can't endorse him, but he may be worth a try. Also Gareth Hughes on this site may have useful recommendations.

......Yes, but in the same way you need to know enough to be sure that the architect is suitable for the job..........

You should look at the prospective architect's portfolio. Most have websites showing their projects (as it happens, I don't). If you see glass and steel boxes, or hospitals or blocks of flats, then maybe look elsewhere. You could always ask the SPAB for recommendations, or check out the AABC site, or the RIBA. Again, I am not on any of those lists.
