Any idea of the date or period of these houses.

I'm puzzling over something I've got to do for work. I want to get the style and period of a bathroom right in terms of decor.

This isn't the house but it's on the same street.

Internally the staircase was unusual with plank style balustrades with quatrefoil cutouts in them.
I know it's a long shot but does that limited info allow anyone to identify a specific period style for these houses?

I know it's a long shot, but at the moment I'm stuck with "looks a bit Victorian"

From the bargeboards, my money is on Edwardian (so 1901 to 1910). Not my field, though, so take that as just a starting point.

I used to live in a similar one in London, turn of the century I think 1890 ish.

Staircase sounds like Arts and Crafts so potentially any time 1880-1930. It is not a 'cutting edge' house so not early in those dates. My guess at the facade is Edwardian

Just as a trivial aside, I have Arts and Crafts being 1850 to 1920. Which just goes to show that the idea of clear cut dates for eras of architecture (and furniture) is pretty silly.

It's a pity the house hasn't got its original front door, but its neighbour has (probably).....and that looks Arts & Crafts. Still, that fits in with the dates we're all giving.

That's great. Arts and crafts is perfect for what I need and it does make sense of the odd staircase. William Morris wallpaper it is

I'd look at fireplaces, any surviving internal doors, ceiling plaster, coloured glazing, and so on, before deciding it really is Arts & Crafts, Abi. To me, it is marginally A&C, externally at least. Just a nod to the current trend, rather than coming over all Red House, full on Lutyens/ Morris, whatever.

It's hard when you get 40 minutes in the house and 30 of them are spent in the bathroom.

It's just a question of what you spot out the corner of your eye. To be honest the customer probably wouldn't even know what period style her house is, but she wanted something "in keeping".

If she knew what she was doing she wouldn't be buying a DIY shed generic "traditional" bathroom suite. However just in case she's more clued in than I think she is I wanted to be vaguely close and hopefully dressing the room "in keeping" will mean she is more likely to buy my generic "traditional" bathroom suite than someone else's.

We have a new toy on our CAD system that allows us to import materials, so myself and my colleagues are having a bit of in-house fun rivalry, so there was also an ulterior motive.

Sorry, no. Definitely not Arts and Crafts. Late(ish) 19th century, but not very late. 1870-80 or thereabouts. You may find the old maps website at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/ can help you narrow the date down a bit further.
That sort of rather heavy gothic had gone right out of fashion by 1900

stairs internally sound more like 1910+

is there any panelling? I presume their is a dado, but is there a picture / plate rail?

it's all moot anyway. William Morris goes with anything Victorian up to present day, it only looks incongruous when it's used in an earlier Georgian setting.
