Hi I'm back. I know it was 150 years not kids seems the same to me though| hopefully one floor sorted ,next problem, original teracotta(hope thats right) covered tn plaster and everything else you can think of,hot soapy water no impact, even after scraping and chemicals cant get rid of white film help.....jacky

Hi Jacky - welcome back.

I'm afraid I found your rather breathless post (between nappy changes?!) a bit difficult to follow, but if I understand correctly, you have a terracotta floor (pamments? tiles?) that has a white powdery residue on it, left over from plastering. Is that right?

If so, then I think I would start by meticulously scraping off any remaining surface lumps of plaster. I would then give the floor a really good, energetic wash with something like Flash (I know you've done this already, but you really need to wash off as much of the powder as you can). If there are particularly bad patches of plaster residue, then use a stiff brush to give them a really good scrubbing.

I would then do a bit of experimentation on small insignificant patches of floor. I would test one area with a good floor wax, and another with a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and white spirit. Wait for them both to dry and see how you feel about the look of them. If you decide to go with the linseed oil, give a first treatment with the 50/50 mix as above, then when it has dried give a final treatment with 100% boiled linseed.
