Alarming spiders

Our house is home to a plethora of spiders, mostly the Hammer Horror type with round bodies and looong legs that make festoon webs. The burglar alarm scores poorly in distinguishing them from uninvited guests in striped jumpers, so much so that we sometimes hesitate to set the alarm. Too many false alarms would rather defeat the object.
Have other members found a solution to what must be a common problem?

Might be the type of sensor you have. My in-laws ran an alarm installation & monitoring business, whilst spiders in sensors was not unknown they certainly weren't an everyday problem for false alarm activations.

We have our fair share of spiders but no real issues with false alarms - we always set the alarm when we go out, and we set the downstairs only when we go to bed. We do have the "pet" type sensors that ignore anything up to large dog size - so you can still set the alarm if you've got a cat or dog at home - it may be that becuase of that they are more tolerant of a spider running across the lens.

I wouldn't fit these if midget /child burglars are a problem in your area :wink: My 6 year old has just become large enough to trigger the sensors!

The sensors fitted in my house can be altered internally.
They are able to count the number of changes seen by the sensor within a fixed short time span.
From memory they can be altered from 2 to 5 counts before the alarm is set off.

If the spiders are as ugly and as mean as you describe, I would get rid of the alarm, keep the spiders and nail a warning poster onto the entrance door. :lol:
