Advice with pain colour, please

Hello,
I am about to re-paint my kitchen in Claypaint in a colour called Marbles which used to be what Earthborn called Old White. I want to paint the two window frames, the back door (on the inside) and a dresser in a restful gray white. My Aga and fridge are both cream so I don't want a colour that tries to match that, and I want the gray-white to be understated and calming but not so white that you wouldn't notice the gray. Those of you with a good eye for colour what suggestions would you make please? I think I will use F&B eggshell. I thought about Hardwick White but now it looks a bit green to me on the paint card. Yes, Doug, nearly back to normal now. Still haven't tried to run on it but that's mainly because I have very little fitness at the moment. But long walks on the moor are good as it involves lots of twisting and bending. How about you? How's your hip doing?

Hello Vicky! So glad to hear you're faring better, that's great.

You're trying to mix warm and cool which is actually very difficult. It can be done, I put FnB's "Slipper Satin" with "Lamp Room Grey" and I like it very much indeed (though Slipper Satin is a good deal cooler than "Marbles") If Lamp Room Grey is too dark (though bear in mind the colours on the chart look darker there than they do in real life) then try Purbeck Stone or Cornforth White. Its's easier to make blue-greys such as the ones I've named mix well with cream than green-greys like Hardwick. Green-greys like Hardwick need a cool colour like Lime White to set them off. It's all about the colour wheel.

I think it's a mistake to make the contrast too subtle unless your room is very bright. I've found if the colours are too alike the contrast just disappears in shadow. If it's a darker room, I'd give Lamp Room Grey a serious try.

The hip's going well so far Vicky but the damn arthritis is coming back with a vengeance I'm afraid. I've got to go back on that nasty old drug they invented years ago as a cancer cure but found it was no good so to use it up they're giving it to us arthritis sufferers... Oh well...

I don't have much of a clue about colours but as Harry Ferguson (the famous tractor and implement inventor) once said 'if it looks right it is right'.

I like reading Chris's descriptions though...

That's very very true but the trouble is the looking right bit can be a few pots of paint later...

Ah yes, but growing old is better than the alternative,....... well almost. I suppose I wouldn't mind it if my demise were to happen instantly whilst I was sitting in an open top orange Lamborghini wearing a ballgown and many diamonds.

Do you know, I started reading this post thinking for some reason that Penners was the author, and when I got to the bit about the ballgown, I thought to myself "Well! If you can't fulfil such desires at the final moments of your life, when can you?!"
