Advice re painting new windows

We have just had installed 5 new windows at the front of our house. They look great. They are hard wood, primed and puttied in place. What would people suggest to use to protect them (I have never been particularly successful with gloss - it isn't nice to put on and I don't like the way it tends to crack and flake). The windows need to be white with black sills.

I had been recommended sadolin superdec but this isn't great with putty apparently as superdec is water based. I phoned the tech line and they suggested that I should go over the putty with primer and then superdec over this.

We have used osmo poly-ox on doors etc and this has worked really well but I wasn't sure whether their products would be any good for windows that face south west (get direct sun & also driving rain ).

Linseed Oil Paint?

Yes, I've used linseed oil paint on my windows, and it certainly doesn't crack and flake.

If linseed paint is so great an the only down side is the long drying/curing time, then surely with knowledge of chemistry these days, someone could find a way for it to dry more quickly. terebene driers is still available, but i've heard this can make it more brittle. I'm certain it is possible.

Are the units single glazed or double glazed? DG tends not to like linseed in proximity to the seals.

Some hardwood doesn't take kindly to being painted.

Linseed Paint Company dries in about 8hrs in good conditions.
I've known Holkams to be touch dry in under 18hrs on really hot days, and didn't Histocolour do some research in UV lamps to speed it up? (link in noj's post)

LPC adds metals (as do other linseed paint producers), and some tree resin, and fruit based solvent. The metals (manganese & cobalt) are the catalyst for drying.

I have gone around the seals with shellac before using Holkhams.
