A Supplier for Wooden Boxes/Trunks?

Does anyone know of a company or individual that makes and sells trunks or boxes with hinged lids in the raw state? ie not varnished, ready for the customer to decorate. I want to make up a toy box for someone and can't find a supplier on the web.

Any ideas welcome.

What do you want it made out of?
If it's common materials, why not ask at your most local shed manufacturer?
Or how about this on ebay?

Thanks Skier-Hughes, I need either pine or MDF. Those you linked too on Ebay are much too big. I suspect someone makes them because you can find unfinished hat boxes, and much smaller boxes for self decoration, I just want one that's toy box sized and can't find one.

We have a guy who drops off off-cuts from his shed making firm and he's made us several odd items, so have a peek in yellow pages. Thought the ebay ones might be no good, but maybe worth pointing out.

Sue - I spent many years in the furniture industry, and I reckon you won't find one at a better price than this. I haven't seen the quality, mind.

Forgive me if you already know this, but be careful doing decorative (or any other kind of) painting on raw pine. Unless you're careful to seal them first, the knots will eventually bleed yellow resin through your paint.

To avoid this, buy something called Knotting Compound, or Knot Sealer - its a brown liquid (based on shellac) and you should paint every knot with it (2 coats) before you do your decorative work.

MDF will be much less hassle.

Hm, there is a decided lack of such things. I think getting someone local to make one is the answer. The Argos ones are a bit too basic.

I understand what you say Penners re knotting solution. I have and use such a thing. My bottle is somewhat old fashioned in style these days and always makes me think I'm doing something with poison! Mind you I wouldn't drink it anyway. Strange how packaging has moved on for so many things, but button polish, french polish, linseed oil and knotting solution seem fixed in time.

Do a google search for Scumble Goosie. They supply all kinds of items for finishing. I have used them in the past for my decoupage work. Use a good quality primer, then undercoat then your top colour and decorate.
