Hi all
This morning I discovered a mystery 'spring' in my back yard. I've dubbed it the 'Wrecclesham Spring', but seriously its not that funny. Its appearing on the border fence between me and my neighbour (more on that below) and its created a large soggy puddle which has fed into the gully I cut on that side of the house where the new air bricks are still dangerously low. Its been slowly trickling all day (see video below) It appears to moving away from the fence toward my house
It could be a mains leak...my other neighbours mains feed almost certainly runs through here. Unfortunately I have no pH test strips to test for chlorine.
The 2nd option is of course rain water. My memory is terrible but somehow I have vague recollection that I might have seen there was an issue hear just after i purchased the house 3 years ago, but completely forgot about it. The previous owner had blocked up the old air bricks with stones, perhaps in anticipation of floods.
The other side of the corrugated steel fence is bizarrely pretty dry with a couple of minor puddles and whats more baffling the land running down that side is way lower. For context on this dry side there was an old barn / garage with a solid floor (I'm guessing) which was replaced 2 weeks ago with a modern concrete floor for the impending yoga studio. They also installed a soak-away in this area about 6 years ago, rather annoyingly barely 3 meters from my wall.
The whole area has a lot of clay but my neighbour reckons the water table isn't that high and they have a proper well in their yard too.
What's your best guess, and if it is rainwater what an earth is the explanation for this localised spring? Its quite baffling, oh well, bucket and spade tomorrow.
