a good builder in Falmouth / Truro area ?

I wonder if anyone has a recommendation for a builder in the Falmouth / Truro / Penryn area of Cornwall. I have a tiny listed house in Penryn with a damp problem and I would love to find a builder that knows about working on old buildings. I seem to be going round in circles trying to find someone and would really value any contacts.

Good luck. I think you will find it difficult (though not impossible).

Cornish builders do seem to have some strange traditions. Unfortunately, they generally involve cement and bodging (with apologies to any Cornish builders here that I have just offended).

I do have a number of contacts that might be useful: First is a good general builder but not one I would let near a listed building though he is better than most. The second has done a fantastic job with cob and lime restoring his own home but I'm not sure if he is looking for work at the moment. PM me with your details at I'll forward them if you would like.

Another source of contacts would be suppliers of lime. It wouldn't tell you about the quality of their work but at least they are using the right materials. Bradfords in Pool now carry NHL, otherwise its the Cornish Lime Company or Mike Wye.

I live in Callestick, a few miles north of Truro if you fancy popping in for a chat (and the small possibility of a kitkat). I can't claim any great expertise but I have picked up a few things in sorting out the damp in the house.

Columbus, I'm sure MdB will be a great help, but if you feel you need to search more widely it might be worth contacting your local Conservation Officer. He/she wont be able to recommend a builder, but you'll probably find that they'll be happy to give you the names of local builders who have done similar work for the council. That ought to be a fair recommendation in itself.
