A float coat over a scratch coat, NHL or putty?

I have NHL here and sharp sand, its a coat and a half I am doing, I've got the scratch coat on using 3 sand to 1 NHL 3.5 with hair, my next coat will be around 10 mm of sharp sand 3 to 2 putty or NHL, Is NHL ok to use?
It did go off very quickly on the scratch coat , didnt even have enough time to go back and make good any rough bits.
So , NHL or putty guys? Keeping in mind I've already got NHL here.

Sorry guys , its not a float coat , its a final coat.

You should be controlling the setting speed. If you did this work in the last few days there is a danger it has set too quickly and not properly carbonated. You should be keeping it damped down in hot weather.

I have been spraying it when I can but it is drying very fast. It didnt crack and it did go ontop of daub so I'm hopeful.
For a final coat would soft sand be better?
