Absolutely nothing to do with period properties, but as usual the forum is the first place to turn to for real omniscience :

How does one set about getting a photographic image (our golf course, in case that's relevant) from Google Earth into a Photoshop document?
I've tried dragging-and-dropping and copying-and-pasting, but nothing seems to work. Does one have to pay them? And if so, how?

and my husband will do it for you. and i will send it back
He said do you want it saved as an image? is it to embed on a website ? or just general use?

Press the Print Screen (or PrtScn) button to make the copy and the paste as normal into your photo editing software.

(Pressing Alt and the Print Screen button will make a copy of just the window you are using rather than the whole screen).

A variation on MdB's suggestion would be to select 'Edit-Copy Image' from within Google Earth, open Photoshop (or other image-capable application) and then 'Paste' the copied image.

Another variation would be to select 'File-Save-Image' from within Google Earth and store it in a folder of your choice. You should then be able to open the saved file with any photo application (just double-click on the saved file name.

MdB's method is more general though and should work for anything displayed on the PC screen, even if the displaying application doesn't allow copying or saving.

ilona73's suggestion is probably the best of all worlds though! :wink:

Oh, I do love PPUK !!

I was in the process of getting the necessary references for Ilona's lovely husband when I decided to give the other suggestions a go. And lo! I discovered that I can print it off straight from the screen. So I zoomed in close and have spent a happy hour accumulating half-a dozen images that I will scan in to Photoshop and, I hope, by overlapping the layers I'll be able to patchwork them together to get a usable single image.

So, many, many thanks to all three of you. If ever you want an exciting game of tiddlywinks, just pop down to Norwich.

Printing and scanning will work, of course, but you'll probably lose some image quality, not to mention all that paper and ink.

Having said that, it may be easier to join the images that way unless you are fluent with photoshop layers etc.

Anyway, glad to hear the problem is solved one way or another.

So glad you sorted it out but i have to say i now have another problem... you have left me with one very disappointed husband who thought he was going to have you as his slave for life...I now have to put up with his sulking and have had to buy him an indian take away to cheer him up! hahah xxx

Moo, just incase you hit this problem again there is another very useful tool available in VIsta, Wndows 7 and XP(the latter if you download the "Experience Pack" from Microsoft).

It is called the snipping tool, and it allows you to capture any part of your screen and copy it, you can then paste this image into any program you require using the normal paste option.

Really useful as you can select/stretch the area you want to cut out and is really simple to use. Just google windows snipping tool for more info or if you have Vista go to "Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Snipping Tool"

You're spot on, lona. I was just going to ask mm whether there's something similar for Macs. Surely Bill Gates hasn't stolen a march on Steve Jobs!

For Macs there's a handy free utility called 'Grab', or you can simply use the 'Preview' application which comes with the Mac. Pull down the 'file' menu and choose 'grab'. You can take an image of a window, a selection or a timed screenshot.

It's really annoying. Having, thanks to all that good advice, learned how to get Google Earth images into my Photoshop document, I now realise that I'm going to be better off using Google Maps. The Earth images show everything in a sort of perspective whereas the Map ones are from directly above, which is what I need for my little project. D**n.
Still, I've learned a lot, and it's bound to come in handy in future.

You can "tilt" the landscape in Google Earth, so as to show a false 2D perspective*, or view directly from above (or any angle in between).

Have a look at the top right-hand "compass rose" that has N at the top. Inside it are four cardinal point arrows. Click on one of the arrows and you'll find that the "tilt" of the image changes. You can muck about with these until you get the perspective that you want.



* Some places actually have a 3D perspective, thanks to various people's work in a Google Earth add-on called Sketch Up. Have a look at the island of Manhatten, for example.

Cor - what a learning curve I've been on. A positive roller-coaster.

Thanks to each successive bit of advice, I'm now tackling Mk3 with great bravado. I've got a real bird's-eye-view, I can copy the images straight from the Google page to my Photoshop one, and the layers slip over one another like a dream.

So, again, heartfelt thanks to one and all.

re Bill having stolen a march on Steve, don't think so yet, although they kinda hit different markets really. Windows 7 does have some cool Mac like features though and it is nice to have a stable operating system back again as Vista was a disaster!

Mac is very successful... i guess most people are scared of change and to begin with i guess they were designed as more of a design tool so would not appeal to the mass market however over the last 6 or so years that has changed and sales are rocketing you only have to look at the number of apple shops springing up everywhere and having their own hubs in pc world to see that and not to mention the success of the ipod and iphone... its drawing people in to buy their computers too..... the operating system is far superior to a pc and doesn't suffer from viruses mainly because
Mac OS X is based on UNIX, one of the securest operating systems of all time.
I have been using macs for years as does my husband ( he does interactive web based training tools for complex medical equipment yes surgeons use interactive trainers before being let loose on humans!) although we do still have a desktop pc for the kids but i have to say even though its only 2 years old it crashes more times than i have hot dinners and the kids don't bother using it because it takes them twice as long to do their homework on it than using on of the macs in the house.
I guess until more people take the plunge and actually try them for themselves and see how good they are... pcs will always take the lions share for the simple fact they are cheaper built cheaper and people generally are creatures of habit that don't like change even though windows 7 is getting more like a mac ... funny who the market leader isn't ahead of the innovation stakes!

Mac generaly being more stable due to the restricted hardware, once Mac's become more popular, demand will be there for upgrading etc just like a pc, then you'll get all the crashing due to hardware incompatibility etc.
Pc's if built with high quality components end up being as expensive as a Mac and just as reliable.
I'm fairly pc literate and my pc's are all home built and they do not crash, it is, in my experience, not so much the platform that you run that causes the problems, but the hardware you try to run it on.
