I got the next restored sash in today!!! If I work really hard I might get the kitchen in within a year from the time I took it out.

Very smart indeed. You're putting me to shame, I *must* do my sashes this year. I was going to take them out to replace some of the cills - however, the first sash I restored (4 years ago ) I filled some large holes in the cill with linseed putty before painting with linseed paint and so far it's held up perfectly, despite being in a very exposed position on the 2nd floor of the house (that's always confused me - is it ground floor + 1st floor + 2nd floor, or 1st floor + 2nd floor + 3rd floor??? The top one!)

You've clearly got a lot less snow than us lot a little further north & west. Fitting windows would be the very last job on my list today!

If you can get away with repair, so much the better. I think on all but 2 of mine the sills need replacing, and the one I did earlier had a totally new frame, but I kept the sashes. I did most of the window on Friday night, till 2 in the morning as I feared that this might happen!!!!

I think it depends if you are British or American! (And I'm afraid that to me the American version makes more sense!)

Your windows look great and a nice choice of colour too, I have to say I admire you for renovating them yourself.

Our place has had all of the original sash systems replaced some years ago with aluminium framed units, which look awful. We are now in the process of getting quotes for replacement wood sash windows. It'll be great to see them in place and will really set the house of.

Windows look stunning plastic and I love the colours! Well done, hard work, but so worth it. These sorts of houses are ruined by the wrong windows.

I absolutely agree, windows are very much the defining statement of the property, in particular the front. Get them right and in character and they will hit the mark, get them wrong and they kill the property instsntly.

Thanks, the green is copied from what was there, I think the original paint was black, but green goes well with the red brick I think. I could do with getting someone to do the pointing (though I will probably end up doing it myself).

My property needs doing as it was re-pointed by the previous owners using a sand / cement mix which has not allowed the walls to breath. I'd like to rake this out and re-point using a lime mix, I'm told this would have been the original mortar and what the house requires.
