If there was ever a group of people who could understand how pleased I am to finally have planning permission and LBC it’s you good people here
The back of the cottage will be transformed when the ground floor pitched roof outshot on the right (below in yellow) is partially demolished so that the kitchen’s lean-to roof runs right across the back. The Conservation officer was particularly pleased about that proposal and I think the result will be much truer to the roofs that were originally there.
I’m also removing the internal wall between the two ground floor extensions which involves removing about 3-4ft of original internal wall but I will find a use for the materials elsewhere in the garden, probably as a dry stone wall. The bathroom (in red) will have its headroom increased so that I can finally get out of the bath without hitting the sloping ceiling, hurrah!
I’m also replacing the front ‘original’ windows which I know some people may frown on, but we each of us do what we think is best for ourselves and our homes. I plan to store any wood frames that aren’t completely rotten as well as keep a couple of very thin glass panes that remain, so if anyone has any good ideas on what to do with them apart from store them please let me know.
The long road towards creating the cottage I saw in my head when I first viewed the cottage begins …
