The guy is entitled to ask whatever he likes for anything that he sells. If some idiot pays what he's asking, then clearly they will feel that the product is worth that much to them.

It actually causes problems for the conservation world. The public perception is that conservation materials, etc are very expensive. Whilst they may cost more than mass produced modern materials, etc this sort of claim is not only misleading but fuels the public perception.

Funny how greed and stupidity often skip hand in hand. I emailed him about the stuff, wondering what made it so special that it was priced at nearly ten times the retail price, and got this back: "i have no knowledge personally about this item. if you have no interest then please do not waste my time."
The mortar is now listed as sold. If someone actually has paid that amount for it, why can't I get that sort of person as a client?!
