Anyway, what many of the sniping comments seem to miss, is that good architecture is as much about function as form. Modern stadia are a vast improvement on what went before.

Eg. Whilst the art deco facade at Highbury is impressive...the new Emirates stadium is a massive improvement...with fantastic views from every seat.

It reminds me of a Chinese-import Greek salad bowel you'd buy in a gift shop.

I don't know if the form/function ideal is met in this design, and I agree that function should trump surface design. If it's good or not in this design, I'm not sure. The surface design really does look a bit cheap and I think will be dated (in a bad way) very quickly.

Designing a major public structure like this is a poisoned chalice, if ever there was one. The critics always have the loudest voices, and like all critics they tend to come from the ranks of those who wouldn't have been able to do better themselves.

I venture to suggest that this wasn't part of the brief that the architects were obliged to work to.

Indeed, given that it has been designed to be partially a temporary structure (for perfectly valid reasons), it is perhaps the exact opposite of a period property.

I thought that after the Olympics it was going to be converted into a football stadium, so it'll be around for a long time.

I think the roundish blobs are the "pods" used for vending; these were mentioned in the article Nemisis highlighted.

It is a massive pain in the A$%^ thats what it is!!!!

If you dont have NVQs in your area of expertise you cant get one!!! Even the conservation officer is ment to have the top Black one. But I have never seen it.
